County Council Survey Results—quality of life

Denbighshire has published the results of its recent survey. There were about 1,700 responses, of which about 275 felt that Rhuthun/Ruthin was their nearest town. This series of posts specifically looks at what is generally the highest-performing Rhuthun and compares it to its nearest neighbour, Dinbych, and to what is generally the lowest performing town, Y Rhyl.

More people in Rhuthun were very satisfied with their local area than elsewhere in Denbighshire. Over half of respondents (53%) were very satisfied. Rhuthun was the only town where more people were very satisfied rather than simply fairly satisfied. 39% were very satisfied in Dinbych and only 20% in Y Rhyl.

More people in Rhuthun felt safe than elsewhere in Denbighshire. In Rhuthun, during the daytime, 76% of respondents felt very safe compared to 61% in Dinbych and 41% in Y Rhyl. There was a similar pattern at night, with 34% of respondents feeling very safe. In Dinbych, the number at night feeling very safe was 18% and in Y Rhyl, 9%.

The survey asked how safe people felt on public transport. In Rhuthun, 45% of respondents had no opinion and this was significantly higher than anywhere else (e.g. 29% in Dinbych and 24% in Y Rhyl). This suggests that public transport is less important in Rhuthun than elsewhere.

More people in Rhuthun were very satisfied with the cleanliness of their streets than elsewhere in Denbighshire. In Rhuthun, 23% of respondents were very satisfied. This compared to 14% in Dinbych and 13% in Y Rhyl. Adding together very & fairly satisfied respondents, 78% of respondents felt that Rhuthun's streets were clean, compared to Dinbych at 73% and Y Rhyl at 62%.

More people in Rhuthun were very satisfied that dog fouling was less of an issue than elsewhere in Denbighshire. 16% of Rhuthun's respondents were very satisfied, compared to 10% in Dinbych and 4% in Y Rhyl. Adding together very & fairly satisfied, 64% of Rhuthun's respondents were satisfied about dog fouling, compared to 49% in Dinbych and 42% in Y Rhyl.

The conclusion to Part 1 of Denbighshire's survey indicates that, for most people, life in Rhuthun is very satisfactory. There are fewer causes of concern. The results for clean streets also indicates that people in Rhuthun are prepared to look after them by not dropping litter and by not allowing dogs to defecate at will (or having a collective conscience to pick up mess after their pets).
