County Council Survey Results—town centre

Aside from Prestatyn, which is something of a special case, more people in Rhuthun were satisfied with the range of shops than elsewhere in Denbighshire. 61% were either very or fairly satisfied. This compares to 40% in Dinbych and 29% in Y Rhyl. Prestatyn was not till recently a shopping destination but the opening of the Parc Siopa Prestatyn in the town centre resulted in 85% of respondents being satisfied.

However, fewer people were content in Rhuthun at shop opening hours, with Rhuthun ranked bottom at 75% of respondents who were satisfied. This compared to Dinbych at 85% and Y Rhyl at 82%. Prestatyn was not till recently a shopping destination but the opening of the Parc Siopa Prestatyn in the town centre resulted in 96% of respondents being satisfied with opening hours. Many of the new stores in Prestatyn remain open on weekdays till 8 p.m.

The proportion of respondents satisfied with car parking availability in Rhuthun was average. 53% of respondents were satisfied and the county average was also 53%. This compared to 56% in Dinbych and 39% in Y Rhyl. Prestatyn was not till recently a shopping destination but the opening of the Parc Siopa Prestatyn in the town centre resulted in 81% of respondents being satisfied with parking availability. The new shopping area has copious (free) parking space.

The proportion of respondents satisfied with car parking charges in Rhuthun was about average. 46 per cent of respondents were satisfied and the county average was 44%. This compared to 49% in Dinbych and 31% in Y Rhyl. Prestatyn was not till recently a shopping destination but the opening of the Parc Siopa Prestatyn in the town centre resulted in 60% of respondents being satisfied with parking charges. Car parking at the new shopping area is free and the town council has for some years maintained one free car park in the town.

Aside from Prestatyn, which was something of a special case, more people were satisfied with Rhuthun as a town centre in general than elsewhere in Denbighshire. 80% of Rhuthun's respondents felt that the town centre in general were satisfactory. This compared to 59% in Dinbych and 38% in Y Rhyl. Prestatyn was not till recently a shopping destination but the opening of the Parc Siopa Prestatyn in the town centre resulted in 84% of respondents being satisfied with their town centre. In spite of the increased range of shops in Prestatyn, all of which are "big names", Pretstayn scored only 4% more than Rhuthun.
