Tribal?
The post on 4 May attracted a comment from a Gareth Thomas, Rhuthun resident and former member of parliament for Clwyd West (including Rhuthun). Said Thomas, “Rhuthin is one of the least politically tribal places I've lived in”. How very true. Perhaps that’s why Rhuthun residents never mounted a campaign against Tesco. Why does the word ‘tribal’ sit so uncomfortably with Rhuthun? Surely we are not so content that life passes us by.

On the other hand, might it be that Rhuthun is culturally tribal? Any views on this potential over-generalisation? If so, is this perhaps a reason why Rhuthun is not politically tribal?

We apologise that we erroneously stated Gareth Thomas' general election defeat was by 833 votes when, in fact, it was much closer, at a very marginal 133.

Speed
A wake-up call contributed anonymously on 9 May to the post Speed reminds us that there is a real issue of traffic noise polution in the town centre, day and night. It may be that my seemingly glib comment about various constraints choking traffic speeds was unhelpful. Yes, there are issues in the evning regarding so-called boy racers, who congregate near Cae Ddol and then drive around the town centre and beyond.

The other related issue regarding noise is the weekend turn-out time from the packed public houses and the subsequent trail of younger people to the Venue night club – and the return in the early hours, of course.

Tesco Expansion
The prospects of Tesco expansion continues to draw comments from both sides of the debate, not least those already reported here following comments here.

One commenter suggests that someone draws up a list of all the shops in Rhuthun and the services/products they provide. There used to be such a local directory, with a sustainable/environmental slant, upon or just after the arrival of Lo-Cost (now Co-op).

There are those who feel that in the modern era, we no longer wish to tour a town centre to get what we want. We need everything conveniently under one roof. Others, though, feel differently. “They [Tesco] can walk on water (hence building on a flood plain)”. Well, it’s not quite a flood plain (that’s slightly further north at Glasdir) but I am sure readers enjoyed the irony.

And Finally... (for now)
Many thanks to those who left comments during March and early April, during a period of otherwise inactivity on this blog. Rob said, "We want you to come back and I am sure everyone else does too" and then, "Welcome back, we have missed you!" Pat commented, "I hope this post means you are back on the scene again?" Jo added, "Please come back - shame to loose such a good site". And there were some anonymous comments, too, such as, "What has happened to this great site - shame to loose a good blog" and "Yes I agree - great blog. Please come back".
