Cost of Living

I've now actually purchased for the first time from our Aldi supermarket... and made repeat visits. The first time wasn't much but comparing the cost against comparable items and making adjustments for different weights or volumes, I was surprised at the difference. Co-op is obviously the ethical choice and here we see the cost of purchasing morally:

    Aldi         Co-op
    £13.05         £24.13

£11.08 was the ethical difference. Or 1.85 times the Aldi price.

Gaps in the freezers are evident because of these advertising panels. Co-op's Italian woodfired pizza, no matter how good (and they are very good), is £7 (or £4.50 for half measures)

Is our Co-op on a downward spiral? The trouble with it, now, is that it's beginning to see permanent shelf gaps. Is this because fewer people are shopping at the more expensive Co-op? If they're thinking like me then through necessity Aldi will feature more. Not only that, Tesco does, too. Tesco was reserved for top ups otherwise unavailable at the Co-op. No longer. Another blow for the Co-op. By borrowing a Clubcard I found that one product at Tesco alone saved me almost £13 over the Co-op price.
