Selling a Lifestyle

It didn't take long for someone to fall for the spin from Holywell's Tate Rowland estate agency and it was on September 9th that probably 15th or 16th century Bryn Clwyd, Clwyd Street, was placed on the market with them.

It's the sort of place that should sell itself without extreme, excessive and over-stated publicity.

Tate Rowlands has been on the one-day estate agency course on projecting an image. This photo shows nothing the house or garden but it does promote the promise of something most of us cannot afford

There are 37 photos, all highly edited and some show style over substance. They include two images of food and wine against a blurred background, as if you were reading a lifestyle magazine. In them, the property you're trying to purchase isn't at all clear. Another is of a garden bench that no doubt will depart with the current owners. Still, the agent appears good at selling a lifestyle. Or is that a lie-style? All very vacuous.

The words are equally fanciful. They're not the usual dry estate agent nonsense. They're more literary nonsense. 'Warm, welcoming and brimming with character' and
Bryn Clwyd’s ancient nuances have been retained and coddled in a contemporary comfort blanket for its new owners to enjoy and make their own.
Eh? Well, at least Tate Rowlands isn't boring.

Bryn Clwyd's on the market for £550,000.

Tate Rowlands has 13 in its books. Eight are SSTC. I suppose they're doing something right.
