All Boxed Up

Today is the last day you can collect or have delivered an organic veg box from Naturally Ethical, Well Street. Not to everyone's liking, you paid £15 and took pot luck. It did offer variety and promoted resourcefulness in the kitchen, depending upon what was in the box. You just didn't know what you might get. I think the trickiest find in the box was heart artichokes.

The scheme started, if I recall correctly, in November 2020 and was subsequently expanded. The scheme therefore lasted less than one year. Such a shame it didn't get the support it deserved. Here is a local business trying to act ethically. The reality was that there were fewer takers than expected and, as with all fresh veg and fruit, some wastage. Grocers allow a 30 per cent wastage level for organic produce. This is not from human carelessness.

It didn't work out and that's sad. But, thank you for the weekly box of delights.
