Alarming Increase

The most interesting—and alarming—thing about my second visit to a pop-up covid-19 testing centre was the number of people in the queue. The pop-up centre cycles between Rhuthun/Ruthin, Dinbych, Corwen and Llangollen. For this three-week spell, it was Rhuthun's turn.

Back in April, I was the only person visiting during my allotted 30 minutes. Today, five months later, and there were about 20 cars. So, at least 20 people (with the possibility there may be more than one person in a car).

Cars were held back while occupants of those in front were completing their tests

This tells me that that people are still prepared to take the issue seriously. It also confirms to us (well, to me, at any rate) that C-19 has made a resurgence. We knew that, anyway. Schools are back, for example, and much of the spread is now associated with education. This September, the rules surrounding schools have also changed: a sibling identified as positive need no longer result in others from the same household isolating and a brother or sister displaying no symptoms may continue to go to school. That in itself is causing some disquiet among families who thus far seem to be clear but are concerned that their child will now catch it from a pupils coming from an infected household. About one third of positive cases are symptomatic.

As I finished up at the pop-up centre, the man dealing with me wished me good luck. Now, I don't believe at all in luck. But, I appreciated his sentiment.
