In Passing—October 2017

We've oft commented that the Corwen Carpets' shop in Well Street is a complete mess. That continues but the owner has now expanded into the former Ruthin Old & New premises, where he's selling mattresses. This certainly beats propping them up outside on Wynnstay Road by the side of his existing shop. To be fair, Corwen Carpets has always sold mattresses from his industrial estate premises. There, he had plenty of space but few customers (because retail businesses have in recent years forsaken that area; and because of the strong competition from within town itself). Now, he has the prospect of more customers but, without a storage area or warehouse, no space.

Retired forester Andrew Phillips is looking after the planter at the junction of Borthyn, Mwrog Street & Park Road. This follows its abandonment by the county council on cost-saving grounds. Phillips has grown many of the flowers planted therein. He also treats and maintains the foliage at the planter's rear.

The St John ambulance hall now has its new roof. As an aside and not related to the roof, we sense that there are tensions between the local brigade and its Caerdydd/Cardiff head quarters
