Work Starts

Well, the media have it wrong about The Anchor. It hasn't closed and continues to trade. For although The Anchor was leased to Herself, it's now trading under iots landlord. So, no immediate change.

Unlike at nearby Slater's, where change is at a pace. Work started on Friday in transforming the former motor car showroom & yard into what will become Ruthin Décor. Workers installed boundary fences on Wednesday and began clearing the site on Friday & Saturday, erecting frontal scaffolding over the weekend and also starting some of the interior work.

Remember that this is a massive project. More, it's a massive investment in the town. The site alone was on the market for £425,000, to which conversion costs must now be added. To honour this considerable commitment to our town centre, we would all do well to consider Ruthin Décor first, before reaching for the car to go to B&Q at either Wrecsam or Y Rhyl or Homebase at Yr Wyddgrug/Mold. Ruthin Décor currently trades from Lôn Parcwr.

There are mercifully few pockets of land in town that shout of decay but the Slater's site, at 0.37 acres, was the worst. It's been over three years since Slater's pulled out of Rhuthun and it shows.

Next door's motor vehicle repair workshop's also changed hands. It's now under the ownership of Steve Mellor. At one stage, the Evans autobody repairs offered his site along with Slater's, as one large brownfield site for redevelopment.
