Well , Gavin, thank you and others for your comments and you could be right, you know. I am, after all, just a fuddy-duddy, a fogey. What do I know about this, anyway? I'm not the or an expert. There's no mention of the solutions you describe in the Masterplan 2 exhibition. Nothing I know of has been published elsewhere on this, not in the public domain, not in recent times. Unless I've missed them and I wouldn't be surprised if I had!
I’ve spent a little time—half an hour—this morning looking at the idea of "shared space" and it is not so far from the solutions I have previously discussed: maintaining access for businesses, disabled people, residents, trying to calm traffic, dealing with the roundabout in providing a one-way system, and so on. From what I read, this "pedestrian priority" appears to be at one end of a spectrum that includes pedestriansation. Ultimately, though, wherever cars and people come together, won’t there always be unequal partnership?
Apologies if I have the questions wrong! 15 per cent of regular visitors to this site have nevertheless cast their votes. Still plenty of scope for others to do so, please.
