Hafina Clwyd

Originally from Gwyddelwern, as one of Rhuthun/Ruthin's most famous daughters, she was very well known in both Rhuthun and throughout Wales. Yet, in some circles, Hafina Clwyd was all but invisible. Some might be forgiven for knowing little about her. This was because she was a passionate literary champion of the Welsh language, culture and community through her books and her published articles. Yet, the people of Erw Goch will know her as an admired and down to earth member of their community, regardless of language. She was a town councillor and former mayor. She even commented on this blog, occasionally, under her name or anonymously. Indeed, she supported the town vigorously and would not drive elsewhere. I don't think she even held a licence. She died yesterday. If we can commemorate Tom Pryce with that tableau in Clwyd Street, how much more does Hafina deserve? More than a bench, certainly.
