Big Guns

John Prescott and Peter Hain were both in town yesterday. They called on the Square, on their way to Rhyl. Rhyl, you’ll remember, was where Prestatyn lad Prezza caught an egg and threw a punch, in an altercation involving a Llandyrnog farm labourer. That escapade didn’t appear to cause him much damage, back in 2001.

We were first alerted to the “Prescott Express”, a stickered white minibus, by way of the election-style loudspeaker address as it travelled around town. Following the minibus was a Jag, but it was Hain’s, not one of Prescott’s famous ones. By the time our photographer reached the Square, the party was already over, with Hain returning to his car and Prescott to his express.

Clwyd West’s a marginal Conservative seat, with only 133 votes separating the two main parties and this, no doubt, was the reason for such a visit.

Whatever we may think of Prescott, good or bad, I wonder what *he* makes of the towns he visits up and down the land. And what of Rhuthun.

Talking of lobbying, Tesco’s painted its new environmental lobby with red edging. It creates contrast for visually impaired people. But Tesco failed to mask some of the concrete base on both sides.
And talking of the environment, the wind farm at Wern Ddu as seen from the A494 south of Rhuthun was active this afternoon, for the first time.
