V is for Vice

The Venue re-opens officially this evening following its refurbishment. Under new management (Turner Bros), Rhuthun/Ruthin’s only discotheque will henceforth be known as the V2 Nightclub.

Under Nazi Germany, the V-2 was the world’s first ballistic rocket. Though not especially successful, it did cause widespread fear. Are there parallels with the V2 for the people of neighbouring Canol y Dre? And the Germanic symbolism permeates the V2 logo.

The V2 Night Club has appointed a New Security Team (their capitals) to ensure party-goers’ safety. While The Venue has recently policed those walking from town to the site, there was precious little if any concern from about 1.30 in the morning for those living on Canol y Dre or Prior Street as clubbers returned. And The Venue steadfastly refused to implement and control the planned alley gate at Canol y Dre.

If the new owners are serious about safety and their neighbours, they will deal with both these issues promptly.

As predicted, Friday nights are for the over-25s. Saturdays, however, are strictly over-18s. Here, V2 could go the extra mile by enforcing both age limits rigorously. All three issues would help to re-establish good relations between the town and its night life.
