Christmas is Coming

By yesterday, all the town’s public Christmas trees had arrived. On Monday evening, the tree at Mwrog Street/Lôn Fawr was lit. Yesterday evening, that on Denbigh Road/Maes Hafod was illuminated. The non-Christmas tree of the so-called Briec roundabout has been in lights all year. The town is way ahead with its preparations this year, before the official switch-on, on Friday 5th December. And, with lights coming on progressively on trees since the weekend, speculation mounts that the main lights will go live ahead of the official switch on.

Chester’s Christmas lights may already be shining bright but they simply reflect the commerciality—and desperation—of Christmas across the border in the big city. Rhuthun offers something a little more discerning, relaxed and a little less rushed, this year set off against the aforementioned lighted trees, the dazzling street drapes and the new lamp column arrangements, all offering something that will not only be unique in the town but the best display we’ve ever had.

Mind you, there’s some evidence or perception that some people are delaying their spending to await details of which stores offer what in the 10 per cent Christmas promotion, due on 5th and 6th December.

Expect a bigger than ever produce market on Saturday 6th, by the way.
