Square

New in Rhuthun is MDUK, a beauty parlour on St Peter’s Square, where once there was Square Interiors and Tommy’s hair. Further back, it was Vanity Fair fashions. It’s one of the buildings with the prized postcode LL15 1AA. St Peter’s Square was looking a bit dire a while ago, with the post office for sale and that horrible gap where the former Majestic Travel once stood. But, things may be improving, at least here. MDUK is the second of two beauty salons in the town, the other being recently re-opened under new management, Blossoms, formerly Sun Tân. A Time for Me! has closed. There remains plenty of choice in terms of hair salons.

Gone is the Chiron Centre, above the Square. We wonder whether anyone really missed it. It was above Cavendish Ikin, with a modest entrance off the top of Market Street. It dealt in all sorts of strange new age things. In fact, we’re not sure exactly *what* it offered but it seemed a little out of place in a relatively conservative town such as ours. Whatever it was, it opened in September 2007.

The upper floor of Cavendish Ikin shows its incredible age, not having been modernised to the extent of the estate agent below.
