From the archive: My records indicate that four star petrol exactly twenty years ago was £1.62 per gallon (39p per litre). And didn’t we complain. And the August 2000 fuel protests saw petrol escalate to 82p per litre (if you could find any—not in Rhuthun).
The usual monthly reflection on Rhuthun petrol prices is a little late this time, with apologies. But this time around, last week in fact, the cost per litre reduced again in Rhuthun, to £1.119 per litre unleaded at Texaco and £1.129 at Esso (£1.229 diesel at both). That’s back to May 2008 prices, for petrol, and it follows an earlier modest dip in mid-August. Petrol and diesel peaked at £1.199 and £1.329 for over one month, from mid-June.
But the moderate reductions are expected to be temporary in nature. Sorry.
The last time we looked at petrol prices was just before they began to fall in Rhuthun, and after some supermarkets had already began to make cuts. This makes Rhuthun’s fall compare well against others. The gap between the cheapest unleaded at Rhuthun versus elsewhere is 3p per litre but it’s usually 2p.
This means currently it is £1.10 more expensive to fill up a Ford Focus in Rhuthun than most other nearby places. That’s the best it’s been for a while.
