Unusual Competition

There’s some usual competition this Saturday for the (almost) annual Sioe Flodau Rhuthun Flower Show.

If you’re allergic to flowers, can’t get enthralled by the town’s biggest marrow, find majorettes just that little bit puerile, don’t fancy the stalls, displays, classic cars (old has beens?), or lament the move from Cae Ddol to the farmers’ mart, then you could try the first Vale of Clwyd Festival of Ale.

Seven participating rural inns are offering guest beers & whatnot and unusually have teamed up with the bus that runs from Dinbych/Denbigh to Graigfechan via Llandyrnog, Llanbedr DC and Rhuthun. On offer will be an hourly all day and evening bus service linking the seven, which includes Denbighshire’s pub of the year, the White Horse at Hendrerwydd. Seems like a wonderful idea to encourage people to enjoy their tipple while leaving their cars.

And for those who want to do both, it’s possible to enter the Flower Show from 12 noon and sample the Beer Festival in the evening.

This year’s Flower Show is the 120th. There’s a free shuttle bus service from the town hall to the site from 12.30 p.m. The Show was a no show in 2007. There’ll be a carnival procession through town from 11.30.
