There are no doubt sound reasons why the 120th Rhuthun Flower show’s moving this year from its usual Cae Ddol to the Farmers’ Mart, but it’s still a shame. Cae Ddol is in town (albeit at the fringes) whereas the Mart isn’t. It’s as if the connection between show and town’s been broken. There was a useful cross-pollination, a sort of symbiosis, as people drift between the two. Reality may mean that people stay on site but there’s still the capacity to float in and out. And Cae Ddol is just about within walking distance of the whole town whereas the Mart will be seen as a step too far for some. Unless they bring their cars out, of course.I guess we need to move on.
The good news though is that the show’s going ahead this year, after last year’s break. Hurrah for that. Rhuthun may well recall the parade went ahead in 2007 but it was nothing without the show itself.
