This Site's Penultimate Post?

“… use your journalistic skills and deliver us a blog with some real facts and answers. At the moment you are spinning stories that are weak and dull...”

This quite serious allegation formed part of a comment left on Monday that actually almost passed us by. It perhaps represents the most grave criticism of this site to date. Up till then, thrice has the Rhuthun/Ruthin blog been criticised:

1. We were once labelled as a ‘lover of small businesses’ by a fellow blogger. Fair enough but untrue.

2. We were lambasted by a handful of axe-grinding local Tesco employees as being anti-Tesco. Even fairer enough but still untrue per se.

3. And in December 2006 we were criticised by those traders seeking to make improvements, as painting an 'air of despondency', though they didn’t name the Rhuthun/Ruthin Blog specifically.

Since this site aims to portray as impartially as possible a positive side to Rhuthun, we did feel the last of these three earlier reproaches was the most unfair, but we also accepted criticism comes as part and parcel of running a blog.

But “weak and dull” is something else. It requires a re-evaluation. If we've indeed become “weak and dull”, now’s definitely the time to stop. There’s no reason why this blog should go on ad infinitum. If it’s come to its natural end of the road, be it so. We would all be the better for recognising when we’re being less effective.

We’ve never advertised this site, yet over the years it’s grown exponentially. There are currently 10 times as many 'hits' as there were when we realised there were basic stats counters to sum visitors. And, as those who’ve been with us from the start will know, we haven’t changed our *style* at all.

It’s not our job specifically to campaign; rather, we’ve been marking the changes we see in front of us as the early years of the 21st century unfold, particularly following Tesco. See About this Site.

But if Rhuthun/Ruthin’s not reflecting the needs of its readers then I'll be the first to admit it's time to move on. After all, though it's not hard work, there's still a certain amount of toil involved, something I am sure could be directed to a different if not necessarily a better use...
