Lies & Statistics - 3 Years On

Well, hopefully not lies. Just statistics.

Amazingly, we neglected to celebrate the third birthday of the date of the first post on this blog.

A lot’s happened in three years. As has a lot on this site. We started as a means of trying to measure and record the way in which Rhuthun/Ruthin would change and subsequently has changed, since Tesco. We’ve rightly evolved to look at the whole town and the many changes we see.

During the three years, visitors have increased satisfactorily. To try to understand a little more about our visitors, we’ve taken 30 days’ worth of web data. Here’s what we found.

» On average, each visitor to this blog reads 2½ pages.

» Half of those who arrived here did so from a search engine.

» 40 per cent arrived here as a direct entry (e.g. by entering http://rhuthun.blogspot.com in the address bar).

» Of search engine visitors, one third specifically looked for “Blog Rhuthun”, “Ruthin blog”, “Ruthin blogspot”, etc.

» When you add the 40 per cent direct entries to those searching specifically for this blog, the percentage of visitors who are looking specifically for this blog is 55.

» Of the other blogs and sites sending visitors here, the BBC’s North East Wales blog was marginally the highest.

» “Ruthin blog” and its variants were the most popular search terms. The second most popular was Picture House Restaurant.

» The most bizarre search terms were: New Sainsbury’s in Ruthin; Kiss o Gram Wales; A shop that sells pink desks and is open on Sundays in Wales; What is a dormitory town; Ethel Austin’s knickers; Derek Jamieson do they mean me; Sex in Ruthin; and Buying condoms at Tesco. Honest.

» Google in its many forms accounted for 90 per cent of all searches.

» Three quarters of visitors here use Internet Explorer.

» Unsurprisingly, over 90 per cent of visitors were from the UK.
