Award

Nantclwyd y Dre has won outright the Welsh Building Conservation Award for 2008, from the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. This year, the CADW sponsored award apparently was highly contested. RICS called Nantclwyd 'magnificent'. The project started in 1996 and opened in June 2007. Congratulations to all who've been involved in this detailed and exceptional project, in terms of saving the building's structure, sourcing funding and in designing the reinterpretations within.

There's also been much applause from the town now that Nantclwyd y Dre's replaced the former yellow signage with something more sober and less extreme, namely a black sign board. Pity really, as the yellow was eye-catchingly bright, prominent and bold. I think we are the only people in the town who liked the yellow!
