Gweledigaeth Rhuthun

Delivered throughout the town centre and to stores yesterday afternoon were fliers for “Nadolig Rhuthun”. Just when you thought there was no town marketing effort this Christmas, we’d say Gweledigaeth Rhuthun (Rhuthun Vision) has actually excelled itself. It’s well ahead of local competitor towns in offering something unique.

See the Nadolig Rhuthun website. A measure of its success is that at the time of writing, so popular is the site that it has run out of bandwidth. But when you get in, it's impressive, even majestic.

Yes, the campaign's perhaps a little late but these things aren’t thrown together instantly. Remember that Gweledigaeth Rhuthun is supported by local businesses, each of which has, well, a business to run. That’s their day job. So, it's enterprising that people are prepared to come forward for the good of the town. They need our support—and to those not members or sponsor, I think we should ask “why aren't you?”

This year is the second large Christmas marketing “push”. Last year’s concentrated more on late night shopping. It didn’t really work. This year, Gweledigaeth Rhuthun is widening its scope—especially to Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd.

The Saturday before Christmas is always a good day in Rhuthun and Gweledigaeth Rhuthun wishes to capitalise on this by pedestrianising the town between 8-8 (sic), offering a parade, snow ball race, pony & trap rides, live music and mulled wine.

And with the slogan "Share the customs and warmth of a traditional Rhuthun Christmas", at least there's a nod to the use of the word Rhuthun rather than Ruthin. As for the "traditional Rhuthun Christmas", traditions have to start somewhere. With all our support, may be Nadolig Rhuthun can become one and we can then look forward to more next year, perhaps even better.

See the Nadolig Rhuthun website.
