Washed Out

In an exact repeat performance of last year, Rhuthun’s first night of late night shopping was again washed out by bad weather. If it’s possible for this year’s to be worse than last, then it was. Though mild, lashing rain had by 6 p.m. caused significant ponding on the pavements at on the Square by HSBC and on the wide area of Well Street, by the Conservative Club. Driving rain continued for the next two hours.

Just 20 premises remained open for all or part of the evening. All had shut between 6 and 7. Shops open were:

Annies, Apparel, Baroque, Cerrig & the Green Lady, Elfair, Ethel Austin, Fineline, First House, Hide Away, Leonardo's, Gareth Lynch, Mococo, 7-Twenty, Simmi, Sweetie Heaven, Traed Bach, Twenty-3, Wayfarer, Well St Pharmacy and Wrexham Blinds. Apologies if we missed any.

Roads in the area were all subject to flooding last night. That between Rhuthun and Dinbych/Denbigh near the Three Sisters was particularly badly hit, with washed-out heavy stones and branches exposed across the width of the road as significant flood waters subsided. Surface water remains a problem on many roads this morning, with rain and winds only easing by about 4.30 a.m. Friday.
