Great Longing

There are those within Rhuthun/Ruthin who feel the town undersells itself as a tourist venue. And there are those who are trying to do something about it.

Witness the new Hiraethog website with the strapline “Open sky, open space, open mind”. We’d say hear, hear to that.

The site’s a winner. It introduces people to one of Wales’ best-kept secrets. It’s professionally laid out, full of stunning imagery, informative, comprehensive, clear, modern, interactive and attractive. And fully bilingual. It could’ve been produced locally and in a sense it was, in Caerdydd/Cardiff – still within Cymru/Wales.

What would make the site even better? An even more of a must see? The inclusion of Rhuthun.

Of course, Rhuthun’s technically not within (or on) Hiraethog. But Rhuthun shares much commonality with the upland area to its west. Most people who may travel specifically to Hiraethog would invariably do so by entering at Rhuthun, from the north west of England at any rate. Rhuthun and Hiraethog go hand-in-hand. Rhuthun adds much value to any visit to upland Hiraethog, in the same way that Hiraethog could to Rhuthun. This should not put anyone off taking a look at the website or, indeed, visiting Hiraethog. But it’s one for development in the future, perhaps.

Llanrhaeadr-yng-Nghinmeirch betwixt Rhuthun & Dinbych qualifies as "in" and Rhuthun does not. It’s difficult to get to Llanrhaeadr without going through Rhuthun.
