A word or two about Tesco Rhuthun/Ruthin’s Welsh language policy.

We thank Rhys Wynne of the enigmatically named Gwenu dan Fysiau blog (Cymraeg / English) for pointing out that local Clwyd West AC/AM Alun Pugh states that Tesco is “keeping its promises” over the Welsh language. “It’s encouraging to see private firms responding to the growth in the Welsh language”.

Tesco is, indeed, to be congratulated over its high proportion of Welsh signage within the store. But it’s still only a proportion as is the case in other stores. As someone commented here on 8 August, Tesco had mistranslated "opens in 5 days" on its awning that appeared outside the store during the countdown. See if you can spot the problem. The commenter is correct when they state, “Such a mistake wouldn't happen in English” but we're all human. ["agormewn" should read "agor mewn"]
