Well Oiled Machine

You've got to hand it to that well oiled machine they call Tesco.

The routine’s settled down but, importantly, Days One and Two went extremely smoothly. Just how many of the Rhuthun/Ruthin branch staff had worked in a shop let alone a supermarket before? Yet, aside from that embarrassing Day One fire alarm, everything went as clockwork - or so we think. Behind the surface, of course, things may have been different but no customer would ever know.

Of course, Tesco made sure that its store was pretty much staffed to the limit. Will this still be the case in six months’ time? Will profitability force a cut in staff?

What really amazed me about the launch, though, was the predictability of it all. Tesco *knew* it would be a honey-pot from Day One. It *knew* Rhuthun/Ruthin would flock to its new store, even down to deploying a man in the car-park with a large "Space Here" sign, which he would raise aloft whenever a parking space became vacant.

Tesco manages to hit the high note. Time after time.
