Our Error

The signage at our car parks is now all sorted out. It didn’t take long.

You will recall we reported that new signage went up last week showing the old tariffs and old charging periods. This was 72 hours before everything was due to change. We thought the county council had made a mistake
  • Monday/Tuesday and in spite of a change of tariff on the Monday, the ticket machines were still charging the previous (old) tariffs. The ticket machines and the signage installed last week matched the old prices and charging periods.
  • Wednesday and the signage was updated to reflect the new position. The slip of paper within each ticket machine still showed the previous charges and time band but the machines charged the new rates.
  • Thursday (yesterday) and all was 100 per cent accurate. New signage, new charges, and the removal of the slip of paper in the ticket machines previously showing the old charges.
The new parking sign on The Square is a vast improvement over the old. In this picture, though, the 50p charge for 45 minutes applies (now 70p). The sign went up on the Friday before the changes

And we don’t mind admitting we were too pessimistic about the presentation of the signs. We feared that the required alterations so soon after the installation of the new signage would make the signs look unprofessional and messy. We were wrong. You’d never know that last week they showed the previous and this week the new.

We were also wrong about the backlash. Yes, there’ve been moans but nothing like that during the previous change in 2016.
