Just a Few Feet Away

Natural Resources Wales is consulting on the possible boundary for the national park that could replace the Clwydian Range (and Dee Valley) AONB. Other than for the country land owners' association, the establishment of a national park is surely a no-brainer.

The interesting thing about the consultation is that NRW is stressing that it isn't a foregone conclusion. Hence the discussion. Yet, the national park was a Labour manifesto commitment.

So was 20 mph but I don't recall any serious consultation on that. Or any possibility of ever saying 'no'. The NRW one involves real people in a real space answering real questions. We'd bet that whatever the process was for 20 mph it was remote. Assuming there was one.

Rhuthun is in the shadows and it is not proposed to be within the park

You can see from NRW's map that Rhuthun/Ruthin narrowly misses out being within the boundaries of the national park. Yet, Ruthin Castle is actually within. Is Rhuthun's exclusion a missed opportunity? Could not the boundary be extended into the town centre? Brecon is within Bannau Brycheiniog [the national park formerly known as the Brecon Beacons] yet is also on the fringes of that particular entity.

More importantly, notice land to the south of Ruthin Castle, between Corwen and Wrexham Roads. This alone should be an argument for the national park... to keep out any development on that important lung that forms the ancient boundary of our town.
