Awaiting a Ball at the Town Hall

Yesterday, the town hall was open for the first time (in recent years). Thanks to the artisan market moving temporarily there from next door, we got a glimpse of the entrance and one large-ish room. That room was where the former Cornmarket Café used to be. (You may recall that café was once ahead of its time in serving vegetarian food.)

In truth, what we saw of the market hall wasn't that inspirational. We suspect the rest of the place had equally been 'modernised' 25 years ago. Still, it does appear that things are afoot for this historic building. After years—decades—of procrastination on the part of Denbighshire council, it has taken one inspirational woman as many months to get the ball rolling and to instigate a plan for reopening the whole building. We can look forward to seeing the stage-with-famous-sprung-dance-floor again available, maybe next year. Then, perhaps we can have a ball. Literally.

The reason why the market yesterday moved from the market hall to the town hall was because the market hall was being set up for a German beer festival. That seemed to liven up the town: there appeared plenty of visitors around. And, presumably while they were awaiting their first pints, cafés were also doing very well, too, thank you.
