Counter Claims

People rightly get nervous when they see their sole remaining bank branch closed for almost a month. So, what's happening?

According to the planning paperwork, there will be 'minor' internal alterations to the HSBC. All that heavy (and not unattractive) woodwork had previously been stripped out in the 1990s. The 'minor' works comprises the removal & replacement of existing internal self service machines, and associated making good & decorations. There doesn't appear to be any move to become a 'digital' branch: there's no mention of the removal of the counter. But the plans don't make this clear, as the detail in the public domain has been 'redacted for security purposes'. That is, the plan has no detail.

Current frontage

The other change will be the removal of the two cash machines and the replacement by a new, more modern single automated telling machine. In the age of the card, we do wonder why we needed two ATMs at the same bank. They were taken out on Friday evening.

New frontage

Closure from September 15th to October 11th seems a long time to do the above.

Even with a counter, there are certain things you have to do online. That includes opening a new personal or business account. You can't do that in Rhuthun/Ruthin. Neither can you do this at the 'nearest' alternative branch at Y Fflint. If you need to make an appointment to do so, you must go to Wrecsam.
