Reflections of Yesterday ♔

Yesterday was just an ordinary Saturday in Rhuthun/Ruthin.
An unusual window. Presumably, that's a King Charles spaniel with two corgis either side

You could have gone shopping, if you were patient to await the 10 a.m. opening time for most shops. You could've enjoyed or endured the new Park Run at the Memorial Fields (which has actually been going almost a year, can you believe). You might've been at work. You could've visited the Craft Centre, Nantclwyd y Dre, The Old Gaol or Yr Hen Lys.

Or you could have watched on TV some bloke take a carriage ride to a Llundain/London abbey to receive a bejewelled party hat. It was up to you.

The town took a little while to warm up yesterday and, at precisely 10.15 a.m., when all the excitement was due to start, there were exactly 32 people on Clwyd Street, The Square or Well Street. There was a solitary woman in the Resource café watching the unfolding Llundain spectacle.

An hour later, and the town was busier but not up to usual Saturday standards. By then, most (though not quite all) shops had opened. The Resource café was now full. There were no estate agents open. Presumably, this was not the day that anyone would be interested in buying a house. Some but by no means all hair/beauty salons were open.

Some shops seemed to close early: the town usually sputters to a halt on a Saturday afternoon but yesterday it was very sudden.

Meanwhile, snips on the evening news of the day's events 208 miles away showed that the behatted geezer did not appear to be enjoying himself at all. Such was the burden of State, perhaps, or the burden of his heavy headgear. 'Er indoors, on the other hand, who was also wearing a similar fancy bonnet, well, she gave the impression of delight or even smugness. Meanwhile, one of the veteran-with-the-bike-helmet's grandsons was endearing the audience at Buck House by acting the goat. Royals being royals, I think the Firm needs to keep a close eye on that one. A prince Harry of the future, perhaps.

There were few homes debecked with royal regalia and you really had to look hard to find them. Nothing spotted on Glasdir (unlike hallowe'en) or Clwyd Alyn, nor Erw Goch, Bro Deg nor Haulfryn. A couple on Llawr y Dyffryn, one seen here, and perhaps two on Ty'n y Parc and one each on Rhos Street and Record Street
