Dodging the C********n ♔

There's a parody of the famous Monty Python line, 'What have the Romans English ever done for us?' Well, irrespective of your views on today's C word, they're giving us an extra bank holiday. Yes, another one. Perhaps not as many as the unprecedented 2022 but still...

Unofficial union jack on Castle Street. There was an official coronation flag outside county hall, though

As for Rhuthun/Ruthin, it looks as if the town council has nicely sidestepped the very public spat regarding last year's jubilee. There was no resolution to plant bushes at care homes or any such thing. In fact, there was no debate about or decision on anything c********n related. At least not in public, anyway, but the Court House is said to be illuminated in red, white and blue and there was something proposed on that building's external digital display but that didn't materialise. (Instead, there was a blank screen in the cycle.)

There's a public exhibition at Y Hen Lys about volunteering, which may or may not be linked to the so-called 'big help out'.

It's otherwise up to individual traders to dress the town as they see fit. Few have bothered. In fact, there's seemingly an underwhelming lack on interest in all things c********n.

How has Rhuthun/Ruthin compared to other local towns?

There's nothing official in Yr Wyddgrug/Mold, so far as we can see. The proportion of shops doing something is far, far higher, though. Is that because Yr Wyddgrug is nearer England?

Meanwhile, there's precious little in Dinbych's shops but the town council there has bedecked (if that isn't too much of an exaggeration) the town hall and war memorial in red, white and blue, while the red, white and green bunting across the High Street remains wafting pleasantly in the breeze.

So, mixed reviews all round, really.

And Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd's community council organised what was very soon to become a fully booked Monday c********n afternoon tea.

Rhuthun Traders and Institutions

Tesco, above, has jacketed the exit theft alarms in purple with gold crowns and, within, it's got a small area in which it's selling bunting and flags. No flags in B & M, though, which was a surprise. In fact, the c********n may as well not be taking place.

At Aldi's entrance, its display has a couple of c********n slides on its display and some special c********n beer.

At its entrance, the Co-op belatedly put up two strings of bunting but the effect was lost amid a sea of membership publicity also dangling from its ceiling.

As for the town centre, you need to be very observant to pick up on anything royal. We were tickled by the display at Jus 4 Paws. Look closely and there are the words 'Endangered Species' above the doorway. Although that refers to the polar bear and tiger chalked in the window, we wonder whether the words were left intentionally. Later, Jus 4 Paws is to give out locally made biscuits topped with a crown to customers.

Some of the other traders doing something are shown below.

As usual, it's left to Trosnant to show everyone up. It came late in the day (yesterday). Abbeyfield has a garden party. Llys Erw and Trem y Foel are a little half-hearted but between all these we have the anticipated interest, perhaps because some of the residents remember the previous c********n.
