Secret Sale

This has proven to be a well-kept secret. As of today, after 23 years on either Lôn Parcwr or the town centre Slater's site (and more years when based on Clwyd Street), Ruthin Décor is now part of Rightway (the owners of Bevan's in Dinbych and Yr Wyddgrug/Mold). The Youngs who between them have established quite a successful business and taken a calculated risk in successfully converting the former Slater's garage site have sold. We thank them for their service to Rhuthun/Ruthin, their invaluable product knowledge and we wish them well in retirement. Of course, Mr Young has not been in optimal health. It's rare that a small independent family firm can find such an easy exit.

The sign on the entrance door is hung upside down. Is this for shame?

As for the takeover, should we be bothered? I think we should.

Bevan's in Dinbych is uninviting. One of the original Woolworth doors is blocked off. Within, it looks scruffy. The reducing range of products now seems to major on cheap alternatives, somewhat à la B & M. The shop facia is strikingly gaudy. Time will tell if Rhuthun gets the same treatments.

Is the sale of the shop 'routine maintenance'?

And then there's the new stock we might expect that will compete against King's, opposite. King's is a Rhuthun treasure and Ruthin Décor has always tried to limit competition. Now, though, we can expect the Bevan gloves to come off.
