Leaving by Bus: some interesting facts

Yesterday saw the launch of a new bus service. It's the T8 between Corwen and Chester via Rhuthun/Ruthin and Yr Wyddgrug/Mold.

Just maybe the T8 will attract people *from* Chester to Rhuthun... wouldn't that be good

It operates hourly, which means we can get to Yr Wyddgrug and Chester as well as Dinbych and Y Rhyl by bus every hour. Wrecsam used to be hourly but, hey, the place has gone right down hill recently. It's now every two hours.

The T8 joins several services together that before were rather infrequent and rarely connected. It also means that the former twice-a-day Chester departure from Rhuthun is now six times as frequent.

This does seem to be very optimistic and it'll take a few months to settle in. So, look out for the T8 and take a trip—to Chester; i'r Wyddgrug; or to Corwen for connections there to Bangor, Betws y Coed and Y Bala to Barmouth.

Here are the main bus routes from Rhuthun:

To where?     How often?  How long?
Chester (T8) Hourly 1 hour
Broughton Retail Park (T8)        Hourly 44 mins
Yr Wyddgrug (direct) (T8)    Hourly 27 mins
Dinbych (direct) Hourly 24 mins
Y Rhyl Hourly 1hr 26 mins
Ysbyty Glan Clwyd     Hourly 58 mins
Wrecsam Every two hours     54 mins
Corwen (T8) Hourly 28 mins

The journey time by bus to Chester is remarkable. The bus service is scheduled to take one hour. That's only about 15 minutes faster than by car and there's no parking, be that park & ride or on the city's fringe/walking into the city centre. The journey's quick because it operates via the A5118 and misses out Bwcle/Buckley.

On the other hand, Y Rhyl is 19 miles away. Y Rhyl takes 26 minutes longer by bus than to Chester. The bus journey to Y Rhyl is double that of the car. The Rhyl bus diverts via Dinbych, Ysbyty Glan Clwyd and Rhuddlan.

As for Wrecsam, it is also 19 miles distant and the journey by bus is only five minutes shorter than to Chester yet, like Y Rhyl, Wrecsam is two thirds of the distance of Chester.
