The Last Post

How many people realise that today is the official last posting day for Christmas? This is much earlier than usual—at least one week—and probably reflects the industrial action we are currently seeing.

Second class stamps are now 68p each and first class 95p. Expect this to increase further, after the results of the current industrial action. Note the direction of the queen's head

How often have I been to a post office this year? Just thrice. Once was this month, to buy £37-worth of second class stamps for Christmas cards. And twice in October, to buy six second class and one first class stamp. For me, at any rate, there appear to be few reasons for bothering.

And others will continue to think so, too. Received in late November is this leaflet from the Royal Mail. As last year, it urges us to save time and money by purchasing postage online. And, if you wanted a second reason *not* to visit the post office, your post person will even collect the parcel for you free of charge till the end of December 2022.
