On Post and Post Offices

How often did I visit a post office in 2022?

4/10/22     1 × 1st class stamp     £0.95     Rhuthun
5/10/22 6 × 2nd class £4.08 Rhuthun
9/12/22 54 × 2nd class Christmas     £36.72     Rhuthun

That was all. No bills to pay. No parcels to post. No passport photos required. No money to bank. Throughout the year, we did purchase sundry books of stamps from Castle Bell or the Co-op, though.

Christmas Cards

The mayoral Christmas card 2023

The number of Christmas cards we received was again down this year. We suspect that the postal workers' industrial action affected the number sent. Those strikes included 23rd December and Christmas Eve.

Evident was the number who posted first class. This no doubt was as a result of the need to get cards to us before Christmas. Some must've been caught out by the brought-forward last posting date for second class.

Also evident this year was the number of cards with definitive rather than Christmas stamps affixed. Perhaps people had to use stocks in an attempt to get cards out on time rather than visit the post office for seasonal offerings. And, stamps without those ugly speckled QR-type codes cannot be used after, what February 2023.

About 10 per cent of our cards arrived after Christmas, the last of which was on Thursday December 29th. One was hand delivered by the sender on Christmas Eve instead of usually arriving by post.
