Crass Statement

We're not sure whether this comment originated on social media or not but it's certainly doing the rounds and it's something like this:
'What's she doing managing the market hall when she couldn't manage her own business'
That's an utterly crass statement as regards the proprietrix of State of Distress whose shop on The Square closed this month. She's now moved on to manage the market hall, in partnership with the existing occupants the DVSC, though they're taking a step back. Remember, too, that she's also organised the monthly market at the Old Gaol. Yes, like its predecessors, they may be running out of steam but in all honesty it's as well we have someone who's prepared to try.

It's hardly her fault that footfall has fallen off a cliff. Actually, it's all our faults for not supporting the town in which we live. I'd bet that the person who originated the comment and those who perpetuate it spend next to nothing in the town.

Giving up a shop is not a sign of weakness. It's a difficult decision. It's a brave decision. It's tinged with sadness. Sometimes it's a necessary decision.

Taking on the market is a bold decision but far from detracting from her enthusiasm isn't it about time we thanked her? She, of course, is Bernadette O'Malley.
