Coronavirus Comeback

Just when you thought it was again safe to venture out†, we hear that coronavirus and its disease covid 19 is back in Ysbyty Rhuthun/Ruthin Hospital. It's been pushed out of the news, by events in Balmoral and all summer elsewhere. We can no longer be sure as to how rampant the disease is, because there's no absolute monitoring to the degree we once enjoyed. In fact, there's no localised data, as there used to be.  But the early summer was a torrid time seeing less of a wave and more of a swell though, mercifully, there were few people with complications thanks, no doubt, to the vaccination programme. Some are now receiving their fourth shot and there are a small number of previously declared as shielders who've had five. On the face of it, the data look encouraging but the sunshine and yesterday's 18°C temperatures cannot hide that autumn will give way to winter. Who knows what'll happen then.

† Actually, more and more of us have returned to 'normal' or near normal. There was a final end (for now?) of mask wearing and isolation, even in health care settings, though they have come back and then disappeared again at Ysbyty Rhuthun.
