Whatever your views on the monarchy, and they can be very polarised, there's no doubt about the absolute self-sacrifice of the present incumbent, queen Elizabeth II, who died yesterday. A woman of profound faith, duty and hard work. Surrounded by both political and royal scandal, she was never part of it, always aloof without coldness, always a pattern for others. She was even working two days before she died, to invite the latest seemingly transient English prime minister to form an English government. And if we're to call this the second Elizabethan age, let us remember it as a long one. Not always happy, admittedly, but in many respects golden. Till social media managed to magnify our lack of any respect and finally killed our social conscience. But that wasn't her fault. And it would've been so alien to her.

A bit of an inconvenience? Then again, there's little sport upon which to bet
