Yesterday's Top Dre has apparently broken all records, even surpassing 2019's event. There were over 4,000 participants and the takings amounted to £17,000, including £2,000 by contactless debit & credit cards. So, it was very much 'welcome back', as people thronged to St Peter's Square and the mood was buoyant. Indeed, it was good to see so many people having a good time again. It became fairly obvious by 4 pm that this was going to be a record-breaking event.
And the acts were well chosen. Aside from the finale by That Man and His Band, the Wee Bang Band, the Pantonic All Stars and Klaus and the If-tones were all great. Band Pres Llareggub also, though I felt that they were best without singer Alys Williams. Many of the female component of Côr Aelwyd Dyffryn Clwyd had more fake tan than in Boot's the Chemist. I dare say the sun was wondering just how it could possibly compete with such burnt biscuit.
