A Sign of the Times?

Ychydig o gamgymeriadau ar yr arwydd dros dro hwn. Oni ddylai fod yn Stryd y Friallen? h.y. 'y' nid 'yr' a threiglad ar gyfer briallen, gan ei fod yn enw benywaidd. A gyferbyn Ysgol Pan Barras, hefyd!

Glasdir Part 2 has seen its first 18 tenants. As a result, temporary street name plates have followed. The responsibility for the naming convention remained with social landlord Clwyd Alyn. Their theme is flowers. Hence, for example, we see the rather twee sounding Stryd y Friallen (mis-mutated and misspelt on the temporary signage with 'yr' instead of 'y'). In fact, given that the streets will all eventually be named after flowers, expect them to be over-sentimental.

We wonder whether one of the streets will be called La-BURN-um Way or other similarly hot names.

Meanwhile...

The chosen schema for the next door Taylor Wimpey estate was birds, as decided on that occasions by the late Hefina Clwyd of the town council.

It was back in 2007 that we suggested some candidate names for the northern relief road. It took over 10 years, to July 2018, for the town council to select Ffordd Glasdir (with the 'by-pass' still in regular currency, perhaps because the naming came rather late). Ffordd Glasdir is far better than the initially suggested Rotary Way, especially as there've been some concerns lately as to whether Ruthin Rotary can still function. The town council felt that naming it Rotary Way would've been playing with fire.
