Andrew Phillips RIP

The health emergency and wife Elizabeth's hip replacement have resulted in a delay but yesterday there was a small gathering at the garden opposite Bridge Services to install a new bench with plaque in memory of the highly popular Ruthinite from Ty'n y Parc, who voluntarily tended that area since 2017 even growing many of the plats for it. He was originally a well known forester, managwer in fact, in Clocaenog forest. He regularly walked the streets of Rhuthun/Ruthin, Elizabeth alongside, with her shopper and, as such, was a regular and consistent supporter of Rhuthun. The sonorous Phillips would stop at any opportunity to chat and was always positive about everything. He worshipped at Cyffylliog church and this, no doubt, explained his caring attitude.

A plaque and bench is perhaps only a small token but how many of us are honoured in this way?

He died in March 2021. The county council has taken over the responsibility for the plot, even though it was following that council's abandonment of the site that resulted in Phillips taking it over.
