The First in Lockdown

This is actually the first Mothering Sunday in lockdown. Last year's was one day ahead of Monday evening's formal lockdown announcement which came on March 23rd (yes, Easter brings Mothering Sunday one week earlier this year). Not that 2020's mother's day was a typical Mothering Sunday. There was no hospitality open. And we were told to stay away from our mothers. This, they told us, was the best way to show we loved them: by keeping them safe. We were all too scared to do otherwise. There'll always be next year..

This year isn't much different except, a year on, we may not be quite so scared witless because, to a degree, we've gotten used to the threat. It's still there and it's still deadly but our response to it has morphed as we've learnt to live with it, as best we can. There's evidence of a little complacency creeping in.

As of yesterday, up to four adults from two homes may meet up outdoors. This gives us just a little flexibility if we wish to see our mothers. Still a little cold and this afternoon it was wet for a garden meet up.

And, as of yesterday, we need not stay at home, provided we stay local (define 'local'). Saturday on the roads in Rhuthun/Ruthin was busier than it has been throughout lockdown.

Nowhere was it busier than in Clwyd Street at Reebee's, doing a fine trade in order and collect flowers. Hopefully, this will help make up a bit of lost ground.

Meanwhile, today, all the takeaway meals at venues such as the Sorbus Tree, Myddelton Grill, the Drovers and the Nat y Felin are all booked up. Seems that a lot of us today will be eating lunch with our mothers... always outdoors, of course...
