It was like it never happened. Today, G H Lewis & Sons removed the street furniture from Market Street, completing the exodus of the active travel scheme. There remain those who lament this somewhat shortsighted decision. People seem to have forgotten why this was put in place in the first place. We really need to take fewer local journeys by car and we need encouragement to walk or cycle. We forget that the town economy needs people on foot and that every motorist has to get out of their car at some point.
