Yesterday's Market

The organisers of yesterday's Christmas market at the Old Gaol yard will no doubt have been pleased with the support it received from the public. Choosing a Sunday rather than the usual Saturday for previous similar markets was probably a good idea, as it gave people and families something to do. There were 298 stalls and this is a record in recent times and there's talk of a repeat in two weeks' time. About 1,300 people visited (it's reported).

It was also well organised in terms of using the space available and controlling the movement of people around it. It was outdoors but organisers nevertheless insisted upon the wearing of face coverings, which was a Good Thing. People didn't keep to the distancing criterion but, then again, neither do they in Tesco.

The range of goods on offer was also very good and even included vegetables.

Post-fire break lockdown, markets are allowed to operate. It was promoted as such. Interesting to note, however, that it was also a one off event (not a regular market) and events are not permitted!
