One Way: 10 Things

As the number of negative comments continue to appear on social media as regards the new one-way system, let's continue to try to get things into perspective.
1. This is designed to give pedestrians a safer environment. Motorists are pedestrians, too. Motorists seem to think that when they are behind the wheel life is all about them. There is also a silent majority out there.

2. Suddenly, everyone seems concerned about town traders. Yet, so few of us actually use the town to shop for comparison items

3. Aldi, which opened last month, was generally supported by most people but its middle aisle is likely to have far more of an impact on small traders than the pedestrian improvements.

4. All the positives on the scheme are lost within what are anti-mayor sentiments.

5. The projection from Market Street into the Square gives pedestrians a modicum of control at this otherwise difficult crossing point.

6. The consultation beforehand was supported by about three-quarters of respondents. The Masterplan initiatives similarly gave the thumbs up to pedestrian-friendly schemes.

7. There is no shortage of close parking in town. Parking was never allowed during business hours along either upper Well Street or upper Market Street.

8. People think nothing of walking in Broughton Park, Chester or Wrexham. Rhuthun/Ruthin is so much more compact.

9. For years, older people who use the bus service have walked from their single set of bus stops at county hall to and around all other parts of the town centre with nary a complaint. They've managed well.

10. The Welsh government is keen on the promotion of active travel and so should we be. We're in enough mess as it is.
