Car Park Re-mark

No right turn to Aldi!

Aldi in 25 days and Tesco is coming to the end of its car park works. Today, we see a white liner marking and remarking and from Monday we can expect a one-way flow. Ironic, really, as the very week before Tesco opened for the first time, the Co-op felt it important to resurface its entire car park. How times change.

No one likes the Tesco car park but people put up with it. Maybe that won't be the case when Aldi opens. Everyone thinks that the parking ground is too tight and there is always some issue or other of a near miss or car being hit or door dinged. In truth, Tesco has rammed in as many cars as it possibly can but who's to blame it. If it compromised on spaces, there'd be complaints that people couldn't find somewhere to park. Tesco cannot win.

The result, of course, is a sub-standard parking area where manœuvres are not ideal and where opposing vehicles can sometimes come to blows, hence the idea of a one-way system. Plus, at last, Tesco promised left-hand-turn only exit will apply from tomorrow, towards the Old Station Yard roundabout only. Makes sense.

It was in June 2017 that Tesco applied for permission to make its internal and entrance/egress changes and Tesco's been tardy ever since. There's no doubt that the pending arrival of a serious competitor has resulted in a hasty application of the plans.

Contractors install the traffic management at the Tesco exit. From now on, it's left turn only. No right turns towards Aldi, please!
