Mini Make-over

The builders are in at Tesco. There's a small compound on the Greenfield Road side where they are doing work at the perimeter in cutting back vegetation and leveling off that part of the car park prone to water ponding. Wonder why now. Could it be something to do with Aldi who, this week, announced it will open on Thursday, October 29th. Tesco arrived at Rhuthun/Ruthin at the very peak of a national concern regarding Tesco's menace. It was a threat and it's interesting to see the tables turned a little. No one sees Tesco as a danger, anymore

One of the immediately tangible changes at Tesco is the new totem freshly erected by the roundabout. It gives more of a flavour (pardon the pun) as to what's on offer. And it complies with Tesco Newydd branding: notice the red full stop after the word 'Croeso' on the subsidiary sign, on the right.

The previous totem featured CDs & DVDs; lottery tickets; and bakery. The new one is much more grocery focused, on fruit & veg; bakery; fish; and wine & spirits (actually, beer & wine). All the things Aldi does well, in fact.

And, who just who buys CDs anymore? The same is largely true for DVDs.
