Another Unique Venture

There've been plenty of people who felt that young Hana Dyer's Cabin Coffee Shop was too small to succeed—including her skeptical grandmother! Not only has Hana confounded her critics, from yesterday, she has entered into partnership with the new proprietor of the Myddelton Grill to open St Peter's Bar & Lounge, next to the Myd in the empty-for-some-time Vanity Fayre unit. Another unique hospitality project for the town.

And, not only that, in mid-October, falling masonry from her new venture hit Hana in the face, causing some injury, hasn't put her off, though it did resulted in the Cabin being closed for a week.

The décor within the Cabin is both bold and tasteful and there's no reason to think that the Lounge will be any different. We know that pubs are having a hard time in Rhuthun/Ruthin as elsewhere, so is this venture doomed from the start? The Lounge offers somewhere quiet and relaxing to drink that has a very different atmosphere than a pub and may therefore appeal to a new market. It's atmosphere will perhaps be akin to that for the micro-pub once planned for the former TSB in Well Street but which was scuppered by residents in the flats above—and a rather awkward covenant preventing the sale of alcohol. Expect gin aplenty at the Lounge rather than CAMRA-certified draft bitters, or any beers on draft, actually.
