In Passing—July 2017

The B & M store on Station Road no longer looks shabby or downcast (other than the display frames to the building's right). It's had a paint up w/b July 24th and looks so much better for it. Mind you, the sign that said "Danger Wet Paint" did raise a laugh. Surely this cannot be in the same category as an unsafe structure or an unexpected fall.

It's been a long time coming, but also from w/b July 24th, Ruthin Dental Practice is undergoing, well, more than a paint up: a three week refurbishment. This adds to the much-needed new windows, The alterations within are to the ground floor reception and waiting area. They've also added some additional practitioners, both dentists and hygienists.

Wern Vets moved into their new premises on LĂ´n Parcwr on July 20th (above). It's the former Lewis Electrics store. This is what their sign refers to as "companion animals" but which you and I know as pets. The building is adjacent to their existing horse centre. It's taken nearly 12 months to reach this point but we speculated about this back in 2014. The premises on Wernfechan, below, are now vacated.

The speed limit along LĂ´n Parcwr continues to be widely ignored. Perhaps, this month, that's why the highways department has put out these strips

Work has started to the front and rear of the former Niagara Healthcare building, also on LĂ´n Parcwr. Groundworks are in preparation for more parking. Before (above) and after (below). The new occupant is expected to be Wynnstay Farmers.

On July 13th, it was a year to the day since GHA Coaches went into administration. Their yard at LĂ´n Parcwr is as busy as ever, only the former GHA owners are using it to break buses for spares and this includes some of their own former fleet of vehicles.

The Nat West has stripped its former Rhuthun/Ruthin branch of signage. I must admit, I was concerned that this would make the building look wrong but, instead, it has actually improved things, as the purple coloured signs were not in-keeping. All we need now is a sympathetic buyer.

The house for sale for the longest time in Rhuthun has swapped estate agents... again. Beresford Adams remains but, as at the end of July, the vendor of this house at 11 Stryd y Brython has also gone with Yr Wyddgrug/Mold agency Reid & Roberts. It started life in April 2013 with Cavendish Ikin at £339,500, passing to Beresford Adams, then Williams Estates, then Williams *and* Beresford Adams. 12 months ago, it was still £325,000. In January, the vendor dropped to £315,000 but it's still over-priced.
